Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the BetterLife iOS mobile application ("the App") and related landing services operated by Joerg Peetz ("we", "us", or "our"). By downloading or interacting with the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not accept these Terms, you must uninstall the App immediately.

1. Legal Disclaimer: Scope of Coaching Services

BetterLife is an artificial intelligence-driven personal coaching tool. It is NOT a clinical, medical, therapeutic, or psychological service.

  • No Professional Advice: The App does not provide medical diagnoses, clinical psychotherapy, psychiatric intervention, or pharmaceutical prescriptions. The AI coach (Aria) offers behavioral reflection, goal tracking, and daily accountability based on standard cognitive-behavioral techniques.
  • No Crisis Intervention: The App is completely automated and possesses no live human monitoring. If you are experiencing thoughts of self-harm, severe clinical depression, or are in a life-threatening crisis, you must bypass the App and immediately contact local emergency services or professional human health hotlines.
  • Coaching Framework: Our digital frameworks are built to align with the core digital principles of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) AI Coaching Framework & Standards (November 2024).

2. Eligibility & User Commitment

By using the App, you warrant that you are at least eighteen (18) years of age. You commit to utilizing the App in a constructive, lawful manner. You accept that you hold sole, complete responsibility for the execution of your focus goals, habit strategies, and any physical or lifestyle actions you choose to implement following a coaching session.

3. Local Data Sovereignty

BetterLife prioritizes your local data privacy. All coaching records, histories, and analytics are saved securely on your physical device. If you delete the App without executing a manual JSON data backup, all of your historical streaks, sessions, and milestones will be permanently and irretrievably erased.

4. Monetization, Subscriptions, & Billing

Subscriptions, including our Weekly and Annual Premium coaching packages, are managed entirely through the Apple App Store using the StoreKit 2 API.

  • App Store Merchant: Apple processes all charges, tax collection, and monthly invoices. All financial transactions are subject to Apple’s Standard License Agreement (EULA).
  • Free Limits & Trials: BetterLife allows you to complete three (3) active sessions free of charge. After this limit is reached, further dialogue requires a premium subscription. Any selected free trial periods are managed through your Apple ID settings and will auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours prior to expiration.
  • Refunds: Since all payments are handled directly by Apple, refund requests must be submitted directly to Apple Support under their standard consumer transaction terms.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted under applicable UK and international law, Joerg Peetz shall not be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of, or inability to use, the App, including but not limited to career transitions, financial investments, or physiological fatigue management. All interactions are provided "as-is" for educational and personal improvement purposes only.

6. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed, interpreted, and enforced in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without reference to conflict of law principles.

7. Third-Party AI Processing & Data Sharing

BetterLife uses third-party artificial intelligence services to generate personalised coaching responses. By consenting to AI data processing within the App, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

  • Service Providers: Your coaching messages and contextual profile data (first name, goals, coaching preferences) are transmitted to OpenRouter Inc. (API intermediary) and Anthropic PBC (AI model operator) for processing.
  • Purpose: Data is processed solely to generate real-time coaching responses. It is not used for advertising, user profiling, or sale to third parties.
  • Data Not Shared: Device identifiers, IP addresses, email addresses, payment information, and Apple Health biometric data are never transmitted to these services.
  • Retention: API logs are automatically purged within thirty (30) days by the processing provider.
  • No Model Training: Under our data processing agreements, your data is never used to train or fine-tune AI models.
  • Consent: The App requires explicit, affirmative consent via an in-app consent screen before any data is transmitted to these services. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting all your data via the Profile screen.
